One of the most frequented kosher liquor lists has just been updated in recent days. According to their website, the Chicago Rabbinical Council updated their kosher liquor list four days ago. Just as they updated their list in early January 2022, they have updated it for 2023.
Categories include American whiskey, bar stock items, beer, Bourbon, brandy, Canadian whisky, Cognac, gin, hard cider, hard seltzer, Irish whiskey, liqueur, mead, rum, rye whiskey, sake, Scotch, tequila, vermouth, vodka, and other alcoholic beverages.
According to the list, it is “updated regularly and should be considered accurate until December 31, 2023.” Further according to the document, “due to continual changes in the liquor industry, alcoholic beverages which are certified as kosher are preferable to those which are merely ‘Approved’.”
One of the most notable positive changes in the list is the addition of the variety of products from Golden Moon Distillery, which massively increased the number of products under kosher-certification this past spring.
While astute readers out there might be able to point out further additions or subtractions from the list, some beers that seem to have disappeared from the 2023 list in contrast to the 2022 list that had been approved were Oskar Blues’ Deviant Dale’s, G’Knight Imperial Red, and Gubna Imperial IPA, while all of the Ommegang products that were approved in 2022 are no longer approved – Art of Darkness, BPA, Gnomegang, Hop House, and Soothsayer. Perhaps there are other significant changes to this list from 2022 to 2023.
