A question I not infrequently receive concerns New Riff Distilling. While I enjoy that it is less than a twenty-minute drive from my house and greatly enjoyed featuring them on The Jewish Drinking Show in 2020, it turns out there is more to the story.
While on the show, one question we discussed regarded their selling of their whiskey for Passover, as it is ḥametz, which ostensibly sounded satisfactory. However, thanks to the thoughtful listenership of the show, I received questions as to what the actual situation was concerning their selling of their ḥametz and discovered that, while they were used to having sold their ḥametz, owing to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic only a few weeks prior to Passover, they had a lot going on and it did not end up happening in 2020.
However, fortunately, according to the information provided to me, New Riff has sold their ḥametz these past three years (2021, 2022, and 2023) to Cincinnati Kosher (Vaad Hoier of Cincinnati). While you can ask your local rabbi to provide guidance on this matter, you can also contact Cincinnati Kosher for further specifics on this matter.
