The Rabbinic Drinking House (בית משתה) in the Mishnah and Tosefta

What is the Rabbinic drinking house?

Joining the 55th episode of The Jewish Drinking Show is Professor Jordan Rosenblum to discuss the phrase בית משתה in the Mishnah and the Tosefta with host Rabbi Drew Kaplan. Professor Rosenblum is the Belzer Professor of Classical Judaism, the Max and Frieda Weinstein-Bascom Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Chair of the Department of Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

This is Professor Rosenblum’s fourth appearance on the show, having previously discussed (“Rav Papa, The Talmud Bavli’s Beer Baron”, “Drinking on Purim in The Talmud”, and “How Beer Became Acceptable for Havdallah in the Babylonian Talmud”), and his book Rabbinic Drinking: What Beverages Teach Us About Rabbinic Literature came out earlier this year (see here for my review).

Here is a list of all appearances of בית משתה “drinking house” in the Mishnah and the Tosefta.
